AS the vast array of celebrities touchdown in France for the world's most glamorous film festival, we bring you the low-down on all the best outfits.

Glamour and elegance were the words whispered as A-listers graced the carpet for the festival opening and various other premieres.

Ruffles, floral and draping materials were popular among guests, with mainly blues and pastels as the popular colour choices..

Cate Blanchett, who was showing off her incredible post-baby body, looked fantastic in a pastel layered gown as she arrived for the premiere of Blindness.

The Australian actress is currently promoting the hotly-anticipated fourth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, which premieres at the event.

Petite Natalie Portman stole the show in a short strapless amethyst dress with ruffles, matched with some dark heels and a dark belt.

Mischa Barton chose a floor-length Alberta Ferretti royal blue gown with net and crinkle detail.

Eva Longoria Parker joined the blue parade, looking incredible in a turqouise figure-hugging dress complete with a long train.

Julianne Moore's choice of pastel yellow, which drained her skin tone, mixed with black didn't get quiet as many cheers as she may have hoped.

Her mix of feathers, sequins, flowers, layers and various other trimmings were unflattering.

Sean Penn looked smart in a satin trimmed tux while rock chick Juliette Lewis went for a short black Alberta Ferretti sparkling number.

X-files star Gillian Anderson chose a simple Alberta Ferretti white knot detail dress and teamed it with a pair of gold heels and slick locks.
