HIT sitcom Friends could soon be making a Sex And The City-style comeback – and moving to the silver screen, along with Jennifer Aniston.

Courteney Cox, who played Monica in the series, has managed to persuade her best friend Jennifer, to get involved in the project.

The 44-year-old - who recently had her own TV show Dirt cancelled - has now got the backing of all the original stars.

Jen - who is currently dating rocker John Mayer - originally feared she may be typecasted as Rachel Green if she was to ever return to the Friends set.

A source revealed: “ [Courtney's] biggest problem [was] getting Jennifer on board because she has so far refused to even contemplate going back to her role as Rachel Green."

It is believed that writers and producers were also hesitant about Jen reprising her role - fearing she was too high-profile to play Rachel again.

But despite reservations of recreating the show which ended four years ago, it would seem the cast had so much fun on set they couldn't pass up an opportunity to revive the Friends magic.

An insider said: “Although the cast have gone their different ways, none of them has quite repeated the success they had with Friends.”

And with Jen onboard and talks in process, we may only have to wait another 18 months before the US sitcom hits our screens again.
