Above: Fox (Jolie) has to teach Wesley (McAvoy) a few tricks of the trade
Certificate 18, Director Timur Bekmambetov, Starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Terence Stamp
What’s it all about? Based on a comic book, this tells the story of Wesley Gibson (McAvoy), a slacker who gets the shock of his life when he discovers his late father was an assassin.
In order to do good in the world, Wesley has to join the business and train up as a deadly killer with the help of sexy hit woman Fox (Jolie).
Well, someone’s got to do it…
What’s good? Expect lots of action in this fast-paced thriller.
It’s great to see a woman in the role of tough tutor, and Angelina obviously relishes her role as a gun-toting vixen. We’re also pleased that the lovely James McAvoy is making his mark in Hollywood.
What’s bad? It’s superficial stuff – don’t go looking for deep and meaningful insights or complex characters.
OK! verdict: A good-looking thriller with top-notch stars, this is fun, if disposable, viewing.
