Above: Tomo (Turgoose) finds friendship with Marek (Jagiello)
Certificate 12A, Director Shane Meadows, Starring Thomas Turgoose, Piotr Jagiello, Elisa Lasowski
What’s it all about? Rising star Thomas Turgoose reunites with This Is England director Shane Meadows in this story
of a runaway who ends up in Somers Town, near London’s King’s Cross. Homeless, Tomo befriends a teenage Polish boy, Marek (Jagiello), and a friendship develops between them.
What’s good? This is charming, witty and surprisingly uplifting.
It’s black and white, and set in an underprivileged area, but it still has a sunny outlook on life.
Turgoose is a riot as cheeky Tomo, who manages to talk his way out of most sticky situations.
The film becomes especially funny when the two boys develop a crush on the same beautiful woman.
What’s bad? Not much. Just don’t expect a long, deep and meaningful exploration of society – this is short and sweet.
OK! verdict: Meadows delivers another winner with this wonderful drama.
