THE MIST

Above: A strange mist takes over

Certificate 15. Director Frank Darabont. Starring Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurie Holden, Toby Jones, Andre Braugher

What’s it all about? Terrifying creatures emerge from the mist in a small town and people start disappearing. Customers in the local supermarket decide to board themselves in and try to keep the predators out. But is the real enemy inside?

What’s good? We were glued to the screen during this gripping Stephen King horror. Thomas Jane is spot-on as the responsible father who tries to take control of the situation, and the psychological side of the story is fascinating. When the action kicks in, it’s scary stuff.

What’s bad? This contains some of the most disturbing scenes we’ve seen in a while – horrendous choices have to be made and it ain’t pretty. Also, Marcia Gay Harden is a little full-on as a religious nutcase.

new! verdict: In the main, this is an excellent psychological horror. Just be prepared for a very dark movie.
