That said, sometimes you have to do what your partner wants and as we ventured up to Southport for The Open for four days of open-air sport, I was a bit worried about how I was going to spend my time, especially as it was raining buckets and I didn’t fancy my barnet’s chances against the elements.

Luckily the fact we stayed at the new Vincent hotel in Southport literally saved the day.

Instead of having to go and watch the golf I made extensive use of the amazing V-Spa.

First I enjoyed an ESPA Mud Envelopment, £65, which involved exfoliation and being covered in mineral-rich marine mud – bliss!

After venturing to the parade of shops for some retail therapy, I indulged in an ESPA Holistic Foot And Nail Treatment, £42.

Exfoliation, oils and a massage were just what my tootsies needed before I slipped them into my new shoes.

Being a golf widow really wasn’t a chore, given that I had my luxurious suite, shops and spa to keep me occupied.

In fact it was so much fun that I can’t wait until the next championship rolls around!
