CONOR OBERST: CONOR OBERST

3/5

Posted: Tuesday 5 Aug 2008

What you need to know… The Bright Eyes frontman goes solo.

First impressions… Indie anoraks love Conor Oberst because he plays a zillion different instruments and writes songs with barmy titles like I Don’t Want To Die (In The Hospital).

Luckily, he’s also got an ear for a killer tune, and while woozy guitars and sweet, quivery vocals dominate, songs like NYC – Gone, Gone and Sausalito provide blasts of fast-paced country-tinged lunacy.

You’ll like this if you like… Jeff Buckley, Simon & Garfunkel.

Our favourite track… Cape Canaveral.

Did you know? Conor comes from Omaha, Nebraska – birthplace of Andy Roddick and Marlon Brando.

OK! verdict… Crazy, quirky, cool.
