THE HOUSE BUNNY

Above: Shelley (Faris) gives lessons in glamour

Certificate 12A / Director Fred Wolf / Starring Anna Faris, Colin Hanks, Emma Stone, Kat Dennings, Hugh Hefner

What’s it all about? A Playboy bunny gets kicked out of the mansion in this comedy from the writers of Legally Blonde.

Shelley (Anna Faris) is a bimbo who is crushed when Playboy boss Hugh (played by himself) gives her the elbow.

But she finds a new role running a college sorority house full of misfits and oddballs.

Can Shelley revive their fortunes and make them the most popular girls on campus?

What’s good? Anna Faris is an absolute hoot as dizzy, pampered blonde Shelley, whose goal in life is to get a centre-page spread in Playboy.

Sweet and blissfully ignorant, she mistakes every insult for a compliment, and puts her foot in it at every opportunity.

The beginning of the film is set in the real Playboy Mansion, so if you’re curious about Hugh and his girls, this also offers a peek behind those doors.

What’s bad? The girls in the sorority house are over the top – they’re all pretty actresses dressed in ridiculously square clothing, just waiting for a makeover.

It’s hard to believe that they would be so clueless about how to meet guys, and some of their one-liners fall flat.

OK verdict: This isn’t as smart as Legally Blonde, but it’s a very jolly jape with a great turn from Anna Faris. A total guilty pleasure.
