THE out-of-the-ordinary wife-carrying world championships took place this weekend in Sonkajarvi, Finland.

This photo shows Alan Voogla with his wife Kristi Viltrop from Estonia, who won first prize.

The objective is for the male to carry the female through a special obstacle track in the fastest time.

The Wife-Carrying Championships is in its ninth year and was first played in Newry, Maine.
