RARE BABY ZEBRA

WOBURN SAFARI PARK, 23RD JULY

Posted: Wednesday 23 Jul 2008

ONE of three rare Grevy's Zebra foals stands alongside its mother at Woburn Safari Park, Woburn, Bedforshire.

All the babies, two colts and one filly and their respective mothers are doing well and are now out in the park reserves.

The Grevy's Zebra is the largest of all the wild horses and has narrower stripes than other zebras and the trademark large, round ears.

The stripes are said to confuse predators when they chase a herd of zebra, as the stripes merge and it is hard to single out an individual.

They are named not after the discoverer of the species but after the President of France who received the first specimens known to the scientific world.
