Heidi Kohl was arrested after slashing tyres because there were too many parked on her road.

She told police in western Germany that she was "fed up with the situation" and hoped by slashing tyres it would put people off parking there.

But police managed to track her down when she was spotted butchering some tyres by a neighbour.

Officers initially gave the 89-year-old a fine.

But Ms Kohl had no money to pay the fine and instead offered to knit for her victims.

A spokeswoman said: "When she's knitted the sweaters, then the matter will be over for us."
